AESTUS POWER REACHES SEMI-FINALS OF CLEANTECH OPEN
Startup Earns Opportunity to Enter the World’s Largest Clean Technology Accelerator
NEW ORLEANS, LA—Aestus Power, LLC (Aestus), a company developing a proprietary thermal cooling system for energy production, has been named a Semi-Finalist in the prestigious Cleantech Open. As the world’s largest clean technology accelerator program, the Open has awarded more than $6 million to support clean technology growth companies since 2006. Aestus is an energy efficiency company commercializing a new system to produce cooling for air conditioning, refrigeration and chilled water. The company, founded by serial entrepreneur and investor Mark Graffagnini, was selected from a highly competitive applicant pool to become a Semi-Finalist in the 2013 Accelerator class.
The Cleantech Open is a highly selective accelerator that offers mentoring, training, networking, access to capital, and numerous showcasing opportunities to clean technology startups across the country. Aestus will have the opportunity to pitch for a regional prize package worth $20,000 in seed investment and services and could earn a chance to compete for the $200,000 National Grand Prize in the fall.
“We’re excited about our selection into the elite Cleantech Open Accelerator network and program, and we look forward to being able to present our technology and vision for energy efficiency to the world with the access that the Accelerator will afford,” said CEO and founder, Mark Graffagnini. “This opportunity comes at an exciting time for us as our potential buyers and end-users continue to evaluate the technology, and it further validates the success we have recently achieved with support from the University of New Orleans and New Orleans BioInnovation Center.”
Aestus is commercializing an absorption chiller that recycles heat wasted from the process of producing electricity to make cool air, cool water or dehumidify air. Its applications are ideal for businesses or residences that require a great deal of electricity and cooling, such as hospitals, apartments, office buildings, chemical or industrial plants, and server facilities. Its technology, developed in New Orleans, can be used in any application in which heat from a process is wasted by venting it to the air.
